Artist Biography

Jan Balet was born in Bremen, Germany, in 1913, died Jan 31-2009. After receiving an excellent education, Balet settled in America in 1938. Jan Balet’s works are cited in several articles and books all around the globe. He was one of the world’s most important masters of naïve art.  His works depict all of the joys in life as well as the irony and mystery that surround our daily experiences.  Balet worked as an illustrator of childrens books and also for the best known magazines of the time including Yogue, Glamour, Saturday Evening Post and Good Housekeeping.  The later years  of Balet's life were spent in Switzerland.  His paintings, lithographs and drawings are a nostalgic journey to a world free of the complications and pressure of today's world.
